Since it's impossible to comment on Johan Norberg's blog I will here write a reply to his comment today about the mistake Centerpartiet in Stockholm allegedly is doing when it is nominating the actor Solveig Ternström as a top candidate for the election to Riksdagen next year.
Norberg writes:
Their best candidate by far, the young charismatic liberal Fredrik Federley is about to be moved down to second place on the Stockholm list for parliament.
I don't really understand how Federley is being moved down to a second place. Most parties in Sweden, if not all of them, have an election open to the party members. This election is advisory, but the election committee's decision (valberedning) doesn't usually distinguish too much from the election outcome.
In this case, Ternström won and Federley came in second. The party members did choose Ternström as the first candidate and Federley as second.
Norberg gives the impression that the election committee is trying to disregard from the election outcome when in fact it didn't.
And anyway, who's first or second won't make much difference since the voters will have a final say due to the option to choose their own candidate (personvalet).
Update
Johan Norberg posted a clarification this afternoon, and as Norberg I hope that Federley gets the votes needed.
